JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Jefferson County Undersheriff Andrew Neff has officially been suspended, effective Thursday morning. He's under investigation by State Police for alleged official misconduct.
County Attorney David Paulson says a notice of claim has been filed against Neff. He says the allegations come from a woman named Michelle Bowens, who is claiming Neff sexually harassed her.
The Watertown Daily Times reports that Bowens is currently under indictment for theft after forging receipts at the McDonald's Restaurant she worked at. It's alleged that Neff offered to talk to prosecutors regarding her case if Bowens would give him sexual favors.
The attorney who filed the claim on behalf of Bowens, is the same attorney who filed a $50 million lawsuit against the Sheriff's department on behalf of deputy Krystal Rice, earlier this year. Rice claimed she agreed to pose topless in pictures to be used in an investigation, but was never given those pictures back, and now they are missing.
Jefferson County Sheriff John Burns says Undersheriff Neff will continue to be paid for the time being.
