CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Chenango County man convicted of the 2002 murder of his wife will spend at least 15 more years in prison.

Peter Wlasiuk was sentenced Friday for murdering his wife, Patricia Wlasiuk, and then making it look like an accident on Gilford Lake ten years ago.

Judge Joe Cawley sentenced Wlasiuk to the maximum sentence of 25 years to life. He has already served 10 years of that sentence for two previous convictions that were later overturned.

Wlasiuk maintained his innocence in court Friday during an hour long testimony and says he plans to appeal this latest conviction.

"How can you get a fair trial in the same court, same county, same people that are all prejudice in the whole county itself?" asked Thomas Wlasiuk, Peter Wlasiuk’s father.

"He's a liar. He's pulling strings. He's trying to convince people he's innocent and he's not. There was domestic abuse. I have firsthand knowledge from Patty," said Pat Grant, Patricia Wlasiuk’s best friend.

Wlasiuk has 30 days to request an appeal.
