NEW YORK STATE -- Homeowners are being encouraged to clear fall leaves in preparation of Hurricane Sandy.
In anticipation of possible flood conditions, highway departments and city officials are asking citizens to help crews clear leaves from drainage areas and front curbs.
Leaves can be placed in bags or containers to be collected from area properties. The clean up and reduction of loose leaves will help prevent localized flooding.
Hurricane Sandy is expected to reach the area by early next week.
