CONQUEST, N.Y. -- A 40-year-old Cayuga County woman is in jail on a charge of murder in the second degree in the shooting death of her boyfriend on Sunday.
Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies were first alerted to trouble at a home in the Town of Conquest by a call to 911. The call came from the victim, Henry Davis Jr., 42, who said he was the victim of domestic abuse from his girlfriend. The call was abruptly cut off.
Ten minutes later, 911 received a call from Brenda Newkirk, 40, saying he had shot Davis. Deputies charged the woman with murder and she is jailed without bail pending further court action.
Cayuga County's sheriff says a death in a domestic dispute has become an all too familiar story.
“This is our fourth domestic violence related homicide in two years in Cayuga County. Which is extremely high for the population of our county. Extremely high,” Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould said.
Prior to Sunday, the Sheriff says the couple had no history of domestic violence.
