ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Shabach Tabernacle on Lake Street opened as a shelter on Monday evening for anyone who felt they needed a family environment to wait on the storm. Several cots were set up and emergency supplies like flashlights, batteries and snacks were available.

While the storm may not have been as bad as anticipated, Church members say no matter the storm, the community can overcome it when working together.

"It doesn't matter how weak or how strong they come, the bottom line is that we get prepared, we work together so that we could all shelter the storm together," said Bobby Smith, Shabach Tabernacle Pastor.

The doors will still be open be open through Tuesday. People are asked to bring their own blankets and pillows.
