Sandy has minimal impact on CNY

Central New York and the Southern Tier appear to have dodged the worst of Sandy. The storm rolled up the eastern seaboard Monday, causing flooding and widespread damage to New York City and other areas along the coast. Our Brad Vivacqua has an update on flight and travel information.

CENTRAL NEW YORK -- The storm had a minimal impact in Central New York, but flights coming here or departing to New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia remain canceled. It's likely to stay that way for a few days.

Those with travel plans involving the Regional Transportation Center are also affected. Most Amtrak services in the Northeast are still suspended for today. Bus service is also impacted so you should call ahead if you have any travel plans.

Across our region, it was mostly rain falling with high winds. The winds did cause some problems with a few downed power lines and tree limbs.

A strong gust ripped down parts of a tree in the village of Jordan. It landed on top of a home on Hamilton Street. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the second floor sustained heavy damage.

There are a few things to be mindful of for your morning commute on this Tuesday morning. You may see a downed power line, and stay away from it and report it as quickly as possible. Because of the winds, you may see some trees, branches, and tree limbs in the road along with wet leaves and debris. Just drive with caution.

Across Central New York, National Grid is reporting a few thousand power outages this morning, especially in Oswego County. The power company has a few hundred crews working to get that power restored as quickly as possible.
