VAN BUREN, N.Y. -- A crash has taken the life of a Baldwinsville High School grad.

Police say unsafe driving led to a car crash in Van Buren Tuesday morning. Investigators say a yellow pickup truck, driven by Joshua Menkins, 20, of Phoenix, was trying to pass a tractor trailer on New Route 31 when it hit another pickup head-on.

Menkins died after being taken to Upstate University Hospital. The other driver's injuries were not life threatening.

This is the latest tragedy to hit the Baldwinsville School District. Just more than a week ago, a Baldwinsville bus driver died after a crash in Western New York. Audrey Gleason, 55, was killed and her daughter was critically injured in the wreck.

District leaders have been trying to help the students and staff

"We have executed our crisis teams in all our schools, the transportation department and they've been doing a wonderful job being there to help the staff and students," Assistant Superintendent Matthew McDonald said.

The district says Menkins graduated in 2011 and was a leader in the school. Their thoughts and prayers are going out to the family.
