Man sentenced for police officer assault
BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Binghamton man will spend six years in prison for hitting a police officer with his car while attempting to get away after shoplifting from a store at the Shoppes Plaza on the Vestal Parkway.
Wayne Hicks, 49, was sentenced last week. Investigators say Hicks hit Vestal Police Officer Jared Fiacco with his vehicle on October 31st of last year. Fiacco was treated for leg injuries as a result of the incident.
Hicks was convicted of assault during his August trial. Hicks was also sentenced to one year jail terms for related charges of larceny and assault.
