SOLVAY, N.Y. -- Solvay Police say a woman was beaten by a hammer and a broom handle Tuesday afternoon.

This was the scene along the 300 block of Gertrude Avenue just after 4 p.m. Investigators say they found a 44-year-old woman unconscious.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

A 20-year-old woman has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police have not released the names of the people involved.
