UTICA, N.Y. -- A gruesome crime scene is being described at length in the first day of witness testimony in the trial of Craig Ingersoll. Ingersoll is on trial in Oneida County Court, accused of raping and murdering Jennifer Bennett in January 2007 and leaving her body behind the Deerfield Fire Department.
The day's first witness described how he found Bennett's body, nearly naked in the snow, while sledding with his son. Law enforcement officials also testified about the multiple injuries found on Bennett's body and evidence found at the scene.
Ingersoll's trial is expected to continue for several days. His defense has said they intend to prove their client had sex with Bennett, but did not rape or kill her.
