NEW YORK -- Governor Cuomo has directed that flags be flown at half-staff today in honor of three Upstate New York soldiers who were killed while serving overseas.

Officials say Ryan Jayne, 22, of Campbell died from wounds he suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with a homemade bomb in Afghanistan. Jayne was assigned to the 178th Engineer Battalion and the 412th Theater Engineer Command based out of Oswego.

Staff Sergeant Dain Venne of Port Henry and Specialist Brett Gornewicz of Alden were also killed in the attack.
