SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Christmas Bureau Distribution Program kicked off its Holiday Drive at a local school.
The Salvation Army and the 174th Attack Wing of the National Guard were at the Delaware Academy School in Syracuse Thursday to officially begin their holiday giving season.
Through December 21st, the Christmas Bureau and thousands of community volunteers will help sponsor food, toy, Angel Tree and Red Kettle drives.
During the kick-off celebrations, the first graders at Delaware Academy were the first to donate about 40 canned goods for the initiative. All of this will go to help give 3,000 families what they need to make a nice holiday celebration.
"So it doesn't matter if a family lives on the Southside, the Westside, in North Syracuse or in Nedrow, Christmas Bureau Program is for you. If you have a need, you're low income and you would like help to make sure that you can have a holiday celebration for your family, this is the program for you," said Linda Wright of the Salvation Army.
