SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- You don't have to worry about leaving a little food on your plate when you eat out at Destiny USA. A new composting program means your scraps won't go to waste.

Restaurants and stores inside the mall have been recycling their food since July. The wastes get turned over to OCRRA, who then turns it into compost.

So far, the program has generated more than 129,000 pounds of material and it didn't take much work from the restaurants themselves.

"It's actually easier, it's very convenient for us. We separate our trash from our food waste. Destiny USA provides us with special containers and we put them in there. They've been excellent for us," said Marty Zajac, Kitchen Manager at Cantina Laredo.

Around two dozen restaurants inside the mall take part in the program. Next year, their goal is to reach 150,000 to 200,000 pounds of compost.
