BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Broome County is mourning the loss of one of its leaders. Calling hours were held Sunday for former County Executive Don McManus.

McManus died after fighting leukemia on Tuesday night.

Hundreds of people paid their respects at the Allen Memorial Funeral Home in Endicott.
Members of the McManus family describe McManus as someone who lived his life with God first, family second and community and public service third.

McManus served as a councilmen and supervisor in the Town of Union before being elected as County executive in 1976.

McManus went on to serve in the administrations of Governors Hugh Carey and Mario Cuomo.

The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, also in Endicott.
