NEW YORK -- Governor Andrew Cuomo says the total for damage caused by Superstorm Sandy is now estimated at $41 billion.

Cuomo met with New York's Congressional Delegation to talk about the high price tag. The governor says more than 265,000 businesses were affected by the storm and roughly 300,000 homes were damaged. He says Sandy's destruction clearly requires a supplemental aid request and approval.

Cuomo went on to say that the storm affected many more homes and businesses than Hurricane Katrina.

"When you look at the damage done, the economic damage, the housing damage, the damage done to commercial properties, because of New York's density, the number of people affected, properties affected, was much larger in Hurricane Sandy than in Hurricane Katrina."

Cuomo is asking the federal government for $9.8 billion for costs not covered by insurance and FEMA.
