UNITED STATES -- The water levels in the Great Lakes are falling to worrying levels because of drought and warmer weather. This is causing concerns in the shipping industry and smaller communities with recreational harbors.
The water is at near-record lows on Lake Michigan and Huron, while Erie, Superior and Ontario are below average.
Some shippers have been forced to lighten loads as routes become shallower.
Many towns are also trying to save their harbors, but that has become increasingly difficult due to federal funding cuts.
