CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- Members of the oldest charitable organization in Chemung County have cut down the Christmas tree for their annual broadcast in Elmira.

Arctic League members selected the tree from a Town of Catlin resident's yard.

The tree cutting has been a tradition for ten years to get the community more involved in volunteerism.

The owner has grown Christmas trees for a long time and was thrilled to find out his tree will be center stage.

"I've been doing this for about 22 years now, growing Christmas trees up here and I give them to my friends and family. I guess I'm very proud that they would pick a tree from my area. It's a hobby of mine and I enjoy doing this," said Steve Matkosky.

The tree will be featured on stage at the Clemens Center for the 2012 Arctic League's Annual Broadcast this coming Sunday.
