Ski resorts preparing for the season

This weekend marks the opening of some area ski resorts. We've had some snow fall, but some of it had to be manmade to be ready for this weekend. Our Tamara Lindstrom joined us from Greek Peak with more on the preparations for what will hopefully be a better ski season this year.

CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- This weekend marks the season opening for some area ski resorts. Greek Peak in Cortland is set to open at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

After a disappointing season last year, resorts and snow sport enthusiasts are hoping for a cold and snowy winter season.

Greek Peak had a particularly tough season last year. The FDIC shut down the bank that was funding the resort, forcing them to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The resort is still working that situation out, but says they have funds secured and are eager to launch the season.

"Because of the weather last year, I think people are sitting back and waiting to see when it's really going to turn into winter. I think that fact that we've been out making snow and making the effort to get open this weekend, you know to get the people out here and see that there is actually snow and get them started," said Wesley Kryger, Greek Peak General Manager/Vice President of Operations.

The Greek Peak staff says that only a couple runs will be open this weekend, but assures there is plenty of room for everyone.
