UNITED STATES -- A judge has accepted terms under which the former Fort Drum soldier accused of leaking thousands of classified documents could plead guilty to only some charges.

Private First Class Bradley Manning was charged in 2010 with releasing U.S. secrets to the website Wikileaks.

Manning's lawyers say that during detainment, he was locked in a small cell for nearly nine months and forced to sleep naked for several nights in a Virginia prison. Manning claims he received enough punishment in the prison and is asking that all charges be dropped.

Military officials have defended the imprisonment, saying Manning was a maximum security detainee who posed a risk of injury to himself or others.

Though the judge accepted terms for a plea deal Thursday, that plea has not been formally accepted yet.
