UTICA, N.Y. -- Stuffed animals and college hockey aren't a typical match, but they came together this weekend to help kids in need. It was for the eighth annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss at Utica College's game against Buffalo State on Saturday.

Fans were asked to bring a stuffed animal to the game and when Utica scored their first goal, all of those stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice.

This year, organizers said they hope to at least match last year's total of 4,500 stuffed animals.

"We're going to be donating to Operation Sunshine this year and that helps local communities right here in our community during the Christmas season," said Scot Hayes of New York Sash.

Since the first teddy bear toss, more than 15,000 toys have been given to the community.
