Two SU football players arrested

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two SU football players are in trouble with the law.

Syracuse police arrested linebacker Marquis Spruill and running back Steven Rene, both 21, around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say Spruill and Rene were part of a large, disorderly crowd at the intersection of Euclid and Livingston avenues. When officers told Rene to get out of the road, he allegedly yelled obscenities at them.

As police tried to secure him, Spruill allegedly grabbed an officer by the shirt and pushed him.

Both men were eventually taken into custody.

While in the van, police say Spruill kicked the inside of the vehicle, causing the doors to swing open and hit an officer in the face.

Spruill has been charged with second degree harassment.

Rene has been charged with resisting arrest.

Both men are also charged with disorderly conduct.

SU football head coach Doug Marrone says the situation will be handled in an appropriate fashion.
