It's been a little over a year since the body of a Bronx man was found dead in the Town of Chenango. The man who authorities believe is responsible is now being tried for the crime. A jury was seated in the murder trial of Joseph Ross-Jones Monday. Our Melissa Kakareka tells us what to expect during the trial.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Joseph Ross-Jones sat quietly in Broome County Court Monday as defense attorney James Moran and District Attorney Gerald Mollen seated jurors.

Ross-Jones is on trial for the murder of Daniel Martinez, 27, last October.

Martinez's body was found by an off-duty corrections officer in a wooded area near Wilson Hill Road in the Town of Chenango. He had been shot and stabbed multiple times and deputies found a handgun at the scene.

After investigating, authorities charged Joseph Ross-Jones and alleged accomplice Daniel Doherty with second degree murder.

Martinez was killed while visiting the area from the Bronx. Authorities never specified why he was in the Southern Tier, how he knew Ross-Jones, or what the motive for the crime might be, but answers to those questions could be answered as the murder trial gets underway.

According to the District Attorney, Doherty has admitted to the crime and will testify against Ross-Jones as part of a plea deal to lessen his own charge to manslaughter. Testimony from police and forensic investigators is also expected.

Opening statements will begin Tuesday morning.

Judge Martin Smith says the case will likely be completed by the end of this week or early next week.
