AUBURN, N.Y. -- A statewide quilter’s guild is using their talent to help State Troopers comfort children in need.

The Quilter’s Consortium of New York State launched a service project called Cuddle Quilts. On Wednesday, the Auburn based group presented the State Police Troopers Foundation with quilts to give to children who may have been removed from their homes because of fire or abuse.

The group's president says the project was a way to help both state law enforcement and children in need of a sense of comfort.

"Usually the Troopers, with pocket money, buy stuff to give to the children, so we wanted to give them something they could hold onto and cuddle. They are not quilts in a sense of covering and warmth. They are a cuddle quilt, they are meant to hold and love," said Pamela Langdon, President of the Quilter’s Consortium of New York State.

The group made more than 700 quilts for State Troopers to keep in their vehicles.
