UTICA, N.Y. -- A man is recovering after being stabbed along Genesee Street in Utica.

Police say the victim was walking to a nearby store when someone came up to him and demanded money. According to detectives, he was stabbed in the lower stomach after a brief fight. He was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital and is expected to recover.
