BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Binghamton looked a lot like the North Pole Sunday as people dressed in their holiday best and laced up their sneakers to run a very special race.

More than 500 people took off at 11 a.m. for the Greater Binghamton Santa Run. The 5K event is a fundraiser for St. John the Evangelist School and Make-A-Wish of Central New York.

The runners made their way through Binghamton’s Westside, wearing Santa hats and suits, reindeer antlers, elf outfits and more. Many say putting together a costume was their favorite part of the event.

"I took a lot longer than I thought it would, but the last couple nights, I stayed up pretty late making it,” said Greg Parks of Johnson City. “It was fun though."

"The light bulb is on the back, there are green antlers, the green represents antlers and the red is a bow," said William Finch of Conklin.

"To get in the Christmas spirit, I'm dressed as Mrs. Claus," said Veronica Diamond of Endicott.

Prizes were given in two categories: Fast Santas and Fun Santas.
