SENECA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Seneca County man accused of killing his son for insurance money pleaded not guilty in Seneca County Court.

You can see Karl Karlsen heading into court Monday afternoon. He is accused of intentionally dropping a car on his son, Levi Karlsen, four years ago.

Levi's aunt and grandmother flew in from California for the arraignment. They are also mother and sister of Karlsen's first wife, Christena, who died in a mysterious fire in California back in 1991. Investigators are looking into that fire, but some family members believe Karlsen had something to do with her death as well.

"Some people can fool others. I've always known in my heart that he was involved in all of it, but it had to come from the right people to bring it out," said Arlene Metzler, Levi’s grandmother.

"He was not a good man, not kind, a little over the top on his aggressiveness. He didn't treat either my sister, or the kids, with kind hands," said Levi’s aunt Colette Boussin.

Karlsen is also accused of insurance fraud. Investigators say he collected a large payout from a life insurance policy that was set up two weeks prior to Levi's death.
