A Central New York non-profit group is looking to collect more donations to help people affected by Hurricane Sandy. Volunteers with Operation Northern Comfort will be heading to the metropolitan area next week with a number of donated items. Brad Vivacqua has the details.

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Operation Northern Comfort was formed a few years back as a way to help people here in Central New York with labor, support, and donations in times of need.

Since Hurricane Sandy hit in October volunteers with the group have been down to the heaviest hit areas twice.

The group, based in Liverpool, formed as after its partner group, Operation Southern Comfort, was set up to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Now, volunteers will be delivering donated items December 22nd to emergency hubs in Staten Island and Rockaway.

The group gathered information from emergency officials of what is needed.

The goal is to fill a donated 26-foot box truck with donations ranging from cleaning supplies to children's toys.

Volunteers leading this effort say any donations will help in a big way.

Volunteer Kristen Andrzejewski said, "There are a lot of people who are in their homes but have no power. And a lot of people as well are struggling to get everyday goods that they need. So, the donations and the volunteers down there distributed to them really help."

Here's some of the items that are being collected by the Liverpool-based charity: Bottled water, non-perishable food, trash bags, cleaning supplies, diapers, and children's toys. Cash donations are also being accepted.
