SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse man will spend the next two to six years in prison for felony DWI. Joseph Bertrand, who killed his girlfriend in 2003 while driving drunk, was arrested again in June on drunk driving charges. In November, he pleaded guilty to felony DWI in connection with his most recent arrest.

Bertrand was found guilty of manslaughter back in 2004 after he ran over Michele Lozipone with his car when he was drunk. He spent nearly four years in prison for that offense.

"This gentleman's history shows that he hasn't learned over several DWI convictions and he continues to offend. He has not learned. Hopefully this state prison sentence, he'll get the message," said Chris Bednarski, Senior Assistant District Attorney.

If Bertrand is ever convicted of a third DWI, the judge said he will be sentenced to life in prison.
