CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- Chemung County's oldest not for profit organization has closed its 'big book' for the holiday season.

For the eleventh year in a row, the Arctic League has closed its book early. This year's goal was to reach $120,000 and they surpassed that, collecting more than $123,000.

The Elmira Police Benevolent Association is always the last organization to sign the book and they helped the organization reach the goal with a $2,500 donation.

Now that the book is closed, they're looking ahead to the next week and a half.

"We're almost done packing. We still have another week or so to pack, well, less than a week to pack up, then the big thing is distributing the toys on Christmas morning. We'll need lots of volunteers. It's usually not a big deal to get those volunteers, but certainly, we don’t want to take anything for granted. So show up Christmas morning and we'll have bags for you to deliver," said Arctic League treasurer Michael Wayne.

This year, the League is at the same number of applications as they had last year at this time.

If you need help purchasing toys for your kids, applications are still being accepted through the end of this week.
