OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- For the first time in more than three decades, Oswego County has a new County Clerk. The man who held the job for just over 30 years, George Williams, died in September, clearing the way for a race for the county job.

The winner of the race was another Republican, Michael Backus, who also serves as Oswego County's Republican chair. He was a former aide to State Assembly minority leader Brian Kolb.

Backus says he is ready to go to work on some updating of operations in the office of county clerk.

“Tackling some of the technology issues. There's definitely some things in the office that we want to streamline as fast as we can. We work with the legislature. Obviously these are tough times budgetarily, so, we want to make sure we're doing things as efficiently as we can for taxpayers,” said Backus.

Also sworn into office Tuesday was Spencer Luddington who ran unopposed in November for the post of Surrogate Court Judge in Oswego County.
