TYRONE, N.Y. -- A Tyrone woman was killed in an overnight fire that ripped right through her home. Firefighters were called to the house on Six Corners Road around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The entire house was on fire when crews arrived.

One man did make it out with minor injuries, but a woman and a dog did not. Fire officials say it's been a while since they've had a house fire like this one.

"Not often but it does occur. It's that time of year, it seems in the winter time we get more fires but it's been a while since we've had a structure fire ourselves but they do happen," said Tyrone Fire Chief Bill Kennedy.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to take control of the flames. Crews from Dundee, Wayne, Watkins Glen and Himrod were also called in. They're still not sure what started the fire.
