SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The suspect in a New Year's Eve homicide in Syracuse has been indicted by a grand jury.
Prosecutors say Fred Burgess Junior, 34, tried to rob David Jones Junior, 30, who was sitting in his SUV on West Onondaga Street that Monday night. During a struggle, Burgess allegedly shot Jones, killing him.
The grand jury indicted Burgess on several charges, including one count each of first-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts each of second-degree murder and first-degree attempted robbery. Police say Burgess does have an extensive criminal history.
