SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Several organizations and individuals were recognized for their work to reduce the number of car crashes. The awards were handed out Wednesday by the Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board.
While some of the people honored are officers who patrol the streets on a daily basis, others are average citizens doing their part to help.
Also honored were students who put together a public service announcement to warn people of the dangers of texting while driving.
"We have too many people that get injured and killed on our highways across the state and the whole goal of the traffic safety advisory board is to hopefully reduce that number in Onondaga County and these are the people who really make that happen," said Baldwinsville Fire Department Chief Michael Lefancheck.
More than eight awards were handed out at the ceremony.
