STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Sentencing is scheduled for Friday morning for the man accused of shooting at police during a chase and standoff in Steuben County more than a year ago.
Richard Vangorden was found guilty of attempted murder, tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of firearm and reckless endangerment in connection with the incident in September of 2011.
State Police tried to pull Vangorden over in Hornellsville, but he refused and drove toward troopers head on, swiped a patrol vehicle and kept going until Vangorden shot at them.
Vangorden was taken into custody following a standoff in Wellsville. He later told police he wasn't trying to kill anyone, but he didn't want to lose his girlfriend who had warrants out for her arrest at the time.
