LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies continue to investigate a fatal crash in Liverpool. It happened on Old Liverpool Road near Town Garden Drive around 7:30 a.m.

Deputies say the vehicle was heading away from the village at a normal rate of speed when it suddenly sped up and hit a snow bank. Witnesses say they saw smoke coming from the inside the vehicle and the driver opened his door as if he was trying to get out. He wound up being trapped in the flames after the vehicle crashed.

People in the area tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but it was too intense.

Investigators are not releasing the man's name until his family has been notified.
