SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A downtown Syracuse business is giving a well known snack a new identity.
The Kandied Kernel is one of a few small businesses to open in Armory Square in the past year and has become quite popular for its gourmet popcorn.
According to some food trend experts, popcorn is going to be known as the snack of 2013.
The Kernel specializes in about 60 flavors from pumpkin pie to Kuse Korn which is blueberry and orange flavored popcorn. It's just one of several local businesses that believe in growth in the downtown area.
The Kandied Kernel owner Melissa Kelly said, "It's just really nice to build that relationship with some of the people that work down here everyday. They come in, it's their little treat to themselves. Maybe, a lot of them have their lunch in hand and that's their snack for later. And, that's just really nice. It's just a nice community."
The Kandied Kernel is located on the 300-block of South Clinton Street. You can walk in or place an order online.
