SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- After announcing earlier this week that defensive coordinator Scott Shafer would succeed Doug Marrone as Syracuse University's head football coach, Shafer was officially introduced Friday afternoon in a fiery, funny, and at times emotional press conference.

This is Shafer's first head coaching job after spending 22 years as an assistant with seven schools, including Syracuse. He has already hired longtime friend and former college and NFL assistant Chuck Bullough to take over as defensive coordinator and close to choosing a new offensive coordinator to replace Nathaniel Hackett, who followed Marrone to the Buffalo Bills.
