CORNING, N.Y. -- As we continue to bring you updates this week from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, we'd like to acknowledge some locally developed products.

Corning Incorporated scientists and engineers working with Consumer Networks Connectivity Solutions announced two new versions of Optical Cable that increases download and transfer speeds.

The USB and Thunderbolt type cables were designed for those who store and transfer files, photos, and video. The cable is also significantly thinner than traditional copper wire. The Vice President of Consumer Networks says the new cables are a breakthrough in connectivity products.

"A lot of engineers, scientists up in the Corning Valley helped us develop this, and its really the coolest connectivity product on the planet in our mind," said Bernhard Deutsch, Vice President of Consumer Networks.

The new cables will be available in March.

Another local product you may be more familiar with is Gorilla Glass. Designers at Corning Incorporated optimized glass by taking the composition and making it more scratch resistant.

Representatives say the glass is already used on more than a billion devices, including tablets, and covers more than 33 brands.

A Corning sales manager says that the new glass technology is researched and developed by talented scientists in the southern tier.

"We've got a number of scientists down there at Corning. Prides itself on a 160 year old company, prides itself on research and development, we come out with great innovations like this that that address real problems that consumers have today," said David Meis, North American Sales Manager for Corning Inc.

Corning Incorporated also has a partnership with SHARP Electronics surrounding LCD glass.
