Richard J.P. Hanlon dies at age 84

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A distinguished Syracuse political leader remembered for his understanding of community leadership has died. Richard J.P. Hanlon passed away Friday at the age of 84.

Hanlon had an extensive presence in local politics, including his roles as Deputy Onondaga County Executive from 1966 to 1972 and as Onondaga County Republican Chairman in 1974. He also worked as Executive Director of the Onondaga Community College Foundation and of the New York State Senate Committee.

And at age 60, Hanlon became a defense attorney and worked at a private practice.
