Cold morning across the region

While the kids are coming off the long weekend, they'll be greeted at the bus stop by some very cold temperatures this morning. With temperatures in the single digits and teens this morning, you'll want to have the kids properly dressed before they head outdoors.

Here's some tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help prevent frostbite - and these will all help keep you warm. Make sure the kids are wearing multiple layers before they head outdoors. And of course all of these things can help keep you warm, including a hat or ear muffs, a scarf, gloves or mittens, heavy socks and insulated boots.

In Syracuse, this is the first winter for the new Centro Transfer station on Salina and East Adams Street. The new facility allows people waiting for the bus to wait indoors as opposed to outdoors as they did a year ago.

When temperatures dip down to where they are this morning, most everyone is thankful to be able to wait for the bus inside.

Bus passenger Veronica Rodriguez said, "I prefer to stay here inside with the heat than to be out there with the cold, snowing. it's very cold out there."

Bus passenger William Murphy said, "It's fine. Just the very fact that it's an enclosed space, means it's warmer than it is standing on Fayette and Salina in the open."

Remember, you'll want to give yourself a little extra time this morning. It's a good morning to warm up your vehicle and take your time on the roadways.
