Seven people are out of a home and one man is in the hospital following a fire in Utica earlier this morning. Our Andrew Sorensen has more from the scene.

UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica firefighters were battling sub-zero conditions Wednesday morning while they fought a house fire on Columbia street in West Utica.

They say the fire started around 5 a.m. and lasted about an hour and a half.

Fire crews tell us there were people trapped inside the building for a period of time, they were able to get all of them out.

One person was reportedly sent to SUNY Upstate for burns.

No firefighters were injured, though one did fall off a ladder.

Fire crews tell us battling fires in this kind of condition is extremely dangerous.

Deputy Chief Michael Wusik said, "It's extremely tough because you have to contend with your equipment freezing up, your air mask's freezing up. Just the ice starting to form on you which makes it even tougher. It's bad enough when you get wet, when it starts icing over, you can barely move. It's extremely tough fighting a fire in these conditions."

Firefighters say the cause of this fire is still under investigation.
