A group of more than 600 people from the Syracuse diocese is heading to Washington, D.C. this morning to participate in Friday's National March for Life. The group is joining Bishop Robert Cunningham, who will also celebrate a mass for the Syracuse delegation before the march. YNN's Brad Vivacqua reports.

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The 250 students and chaperones who left from Bishop Grimes High School will be joined by about 300 others from the Syracuse diocese. The group is headed to Washington, D.C. for tomorrow's National March for Life, and it's expected a record number of people will attend the annual pro-life rally.

Students gathered inside the much warmer school cafeteria before getting on the buses around 6:30 a.m.

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court landmark decision Roe v. Wade, legalizing abortion across the country.

After leaving Syracuse, the buses were expected to join another group in Johnson City in the Southern Tier.

We spoke to some of the students and chaperones making the trip who say they're looking forward to the opportunity.

"I'm very excited to go on this trip. I'm looking forward to giving witness to the sanctity of unborn babies," said Gabriella Oliva, a Bishop Grimes student.

"We're all pro life, we're all pro babies, and we're really and it's very exciting to see all these young kids going on this trip," said Ineke Fenzl, trip chaperone.

Friday’s March for Life will begin shortly before noon on the National Mall and then move to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court building. Bishop Cunningham will also be saying mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception before the march.

This group will also make a stop at a shrine in Maryland on Saturday, so it will be a busy weekend.
