SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A new restaurant in Destiny USA has donated a big check to the Food Bank of Central New York.

Gordon Biersch handed over more than $10,000 to the Food Bank. The money comes from a fundraiser the restaurant held when it first opened in December.

The Food Bank says this money comes at a good time for them and the thousands of people they help on a daily basis.

"This is the time of year when we can use additional resources. And with the cold weather, people have to choose between paying for food or paying for utilities so the opportunity to put more food in the community now is very helpful," said Tom Slater, Food Bank of Central New York Executive Director.

The money donated will help provide more than 17,000 meals for people in need across Central and Northern New York.
