NEWARK VALLEY, N.Y. -- Just days after a firefighter died fighting a fire in Newark Valley, another has been hurt helping make sure everyone was safe at a house fire just a few miles away.

Crews were called to a home on Settle Road around 6 a.m. They arrived to find it fully engulfed in flames.

People were inside when the fire started, but they were all able to get out safely. One firefighter was burned trying to make sure everyone was okay.

"He got here and confirmed everybody was out of the house. He received minor burns on one of his hands trying to make sure everybody was clear from the house," said Kevin Ford, Tioga County Deputy Fire Coordinator.

The fire comes after an Owego firefighter, Matthew Porcari, died while fighting a fire on Chamberlain Road in Newark Valley Monday night. His calling hours and funeral are being held this weekend in Owego. That fire was ruled electrical in nature.

The cause of Friday morning's fire is still under investigation.
