SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Police have made an arrest in the shooting of 77-year-old Christian Brothers Academy baseball coach Thomas Dotterer.

The shooting occurred during an armed robbery at a north side liquor store in Syracuse, a store owned by Dotterer. The coach was shot in the eye during the holdup and remains hospitalized.

Police say they have arrested Shireff Williams III, 19, on a number of charges including robbery and assault. They are also seeking a second suspect. They say Williams and the other suspect were also involved with another man in a holdup a half an hour earlier on Taft Avenue.

Police Chief Frank Fowler credited good police work and the help of witnesses for quick action in the case.

“Here's an opportunity for, not just the police department to send a message when we're able to make an arrest for something like this in such a short period of time, but for the public to send a message to say that, collectively, we're not going to tolerate this,” said Frank Fowler, Syracuse Police Chief.

Police are still asking for the public's help in tracking down the second suspect in the case.
