SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Gun Show will be playing by some new rules when it comes to the State Fairgrounds this April.

The organization that runs the show "New York State Arms Collectors Association Incorporated" has agreed to follow "Model Gun Show Procedures" for all of its exhibitions.

Under these procedures, guns brought into the show by private sellers will be tagged. The goal is when the gun leaves, the operator can tell if the gun was sold and if a proper background check was performed.

The Attorney General's office says the rules came about following a 20-11 investigation showing a large number of private gun sales that happened without a background check.

Gun show operators are also required to post signs and give written notice that state law requires a background check before a sale is completed.
