State officials visiting CNY to explain Safe Act
LAFAYETTE, N.Y. -- State officials have been touring New York to discuss the Safe Act that was signed into law by Governor Cuomo earlier this month.

Members of the New York State Police and Division of Criminal Justice Services will be in our area today to better explain the law.

The new law includes a tighter ban on assault weapons and restrictions on the sale of guns and certain types of ammunition. As a result, it gives New York some of the toughest gun control laws in the country.

New York's legislature is the first in the nation to pass tougher gun control measures since the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting.

Tonight's public presentation will take place at 5 p.m. at the Lafayette Town Hall on Route 11 North in Lafayette.
