The Lake Ontario Playhouse, a comedy club in Sackets Harbor, is getting set to open for its 27th season this Friday night. The entire night's proceeds from ticket sales will go to helping people in need. As our Brian Dwyer reports, the goal is to truly show that laughter truly can heal.

SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. -- Charles Dickens once wrote, "There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor."

Friday night, when the Lake Ontario Playhouse opens its doors for its 27th season, a kickoff event to help raise money for the Watertown Urban Mission, the hope is the Mission gets more and more help with each and every laugh.

"Comedy is a great way to bring joy to people and that's what we try to do here," Urban Mission Director of Development Drew Mangione said. "We provide dignity and respect to helping people and to brighten up their lives. So to have comedy do it for us is exceptional."

"The Urban Mission is a great organization in Watertown and we're really glad to help them out," Mike Kinnie of the Lake Ontario Playhouse added. "It's a good kickoff to our 2013 season."

The club, which in the past has featured performers like Kevin James, Darrell Hammond, Jimmy Fallon and Jim Brewer, will headline a guy who's been all over TV recently and traveled the nation doing his unique style of stand-up, Tom Anzalone.

"He does music, impressions, everything from Bruce Springsteen to The Who as a rock opera. He has a beautiful opera voice," Kinnie said. "He does Britney Spears, Michael Jackson. He's absolutely hilarious."

Every cent of the ticket sales will go to the Mission to help bring people everything from food and prescriptions to winter coats and hats. It's another big boost at just the right time.

"This community is so generous," Mangione said. "So many organizations and businesses have taken the opportunity to partner with us in helping people in need.”

The show starts Friday night at 9. Tickets at the door are $15.

The Lake Ontario Playhouse will have shows every Friday and Saturday night throughout the year and also have some theatre performances in the summer.
