CENTRAL NEW YORK -- We got a nice break from winter Wednesday, with record breaking temperatures rising into the 60s, but don't expect it to last long. Drastic changes are on the way for the entire region.

According to our meteorologists, temperatures Thursday will be back below freezing.

Wind will also be a factor. In Central New York, winds could reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour in some areas.

Northern New York could feel winds gusts up to 60 miles per hour, with the strongest in the Massena area. Residents there can also expect heavy lake effect snow Thursday morning, making for difficult traveling conditions.

There could also be a number of power outages due to the strong winds in Northern New York.

Some of that severe wind has already hit the Syracuse area. A strong wind gust took down a traffic light above the intersection of Hiawatha Boulevard and North Salina Street near Interstate 81 around noon Wednesday.

One light was still dangling from wires by the time Department of Transportation crews arrived.

Thankfully, no one was injured and the DOT had crews at the scene repairing the damages.
