ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man who has been affected by suicide spoke to students at Onondaga Community College about the seriousness of the issue.

Ron Pappalardo has spent the past three years sharing his story about suicide with students all over the country. Pappalardo lost his 17-year-old son to suicide and now, he's working to prevent others from taking their lives as well.

"Most of the time, a young person will communicate that they are suicidal or thinking about that. So it's important if that communication is made that we take those things seriously," said Pappalardo.

Pappalardo has also written a book about his story called "Reconciled by the Light, The After Death Letters from a Teen Suicide, A True Story."
